A spotlight on CT content within the Clinical Imaging e-learning programme

Computed Tomography (CT) learning opportunities for imaging professionals

Published: 18 June 2025 CPD

The Clinical Imaging e-learning programme, developed by the College of Radiographers in partnership with NHS England, offers a wide range of high-quality, interactive sessions designed to support the continuing professional development (CPD) of radiography professionals.

With over 500 free sessions, the programme covers a wide range of topics, including ones on specialised modalities like ultrasound, MRI, and CT. The following CT-focused modules are particularly beneficial for those seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills in this area.

CT Technology

8 sessions provide a comprehensive understanding of the science and technical aspects behind CT image production. The sessions cover:

  • Factors involving image quality
  • Origins of image artefacts
  • Image display
  • Scanning factors and their effect on dose.

Access the CT Technology sessions.

CT Anatomy

Build your confidence in interpreting axial, sagittal, and coronal CT images of 10 different anatomical structures of the body – from head, neck, and chest through to foot and ankle.

Access the CT Anatomy sessions.

CT in Neurological Emergencies

Session which explore the role of cross-sectional imaging in common neurological emergencies and how they are imaged. They also cover the anatomy of the brain and cervical spine, so you can recognise abnormalities and cervical spine trauma. Features 6 case studies.

Access these sessions via the Cross-sectional Imaging module

GI and GU: CT Imaging

Enhance your understanding of how CT urography is performed, the role of computed tomography colonography (CTC) in imaging of the colon, and the techniques involved in imaging the small bowel via CT Enterography (CTE).

Access all sessions via the Gastro-intestinal and Genito-urinary module.

Cardiovascular CT

These sessions will help you understand the techniques used in cardiac CT and technical challenges. They also explore screening for coronary artery disease using CT cardiac calcium scoring.

Access all sessions via  the  Cardiovascular CT sessions.

PET- CT

These sessions will help you better understand the physics and technology of modern PET-CT scanners and explore their practical use and application. Self-evaluation questions are embedded within each session to check your learning!

Access sessions via the Nuclear Medicine module.

About the Clinical Imaging e-learning programme

The programme is a core educational resource available to all health and care professionals within the NHS. Whether you are a radiography learner or working in advanced practice, the programme supports the development of image interpretation skills.

As well as clinical content, there are sessions focused on patient care, including imaging patients with disabilities, dementia, and specific needs, along with topics such as consent, clinical governance, and professional development.

To access the programme, users are required to register via the NHS England e-learning platform.
